How did the olympics begin
Did you know in 776 B.C.E/about 3000 years ago was the date of the first olympic games. When the olympics started it was actually a religious festival to honor Zeus. Zeus is the god of pies and a leader of other different Greek god. The gods lived in mount olympus,which is the highest mountain in greece.
Did you know that the name was named after a mountain but it was placed in a religious sanctuary. But luckily the land was beautiful and rich with olive trees.

The begging, the games were only short races that are only 700 feet long made to keep greek men fit for war and was only for men’s who speak greek and can fit 20 men. And was a straight track to race on a few time days later some men even ran the races with no clothes on. No worries it is over.
Did you know there were only 1 winner who was given a wreath of olive leaves and those weren't any normal olive leaves those were dedicated to zeus and is founded behind a temple and a statue was built to honor the winner! And this happens every four years from now on.

About 40,000 to 20,000 people attended the Olympics.They were really really important to people from greek.They would all stop fighting for a full month before the games.When that's happening men can train or travel to the games knowing there is no reason to be in fear.The ancient olympics happened for over 1000 years until one day in the year 393 ad the roman emperor theodosius made them illegal because people weren't about gods they were about a new christianity the olympic buildings were all destroyed and the city was buried in a flood.The olympics we play today were started by a french educator and historian with the name pierre de coubertin.Pierre loved sports and thought that the world would have more peace if we came together to play sports.he designed the five olympic rings
